The Blind Division at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine revealed plans to import a special printer to print books in Braille from an Emirati company, aiming to allocate a corner for the blind and visually impaired in public libraries and supply them with Braille books.

Mr. Ameer Al-Shammari, the official of the Blind Institute's Division of the Holy Shrine, said in a statement to Karbala International Agency, "His Eminence, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, directed to provide all the blinds' needs, including cultural, scientific, religious, and social fields. So shedding light emerged in blind libraries in Iraq and Karbala. We contracted with an Emirati company to import a printer that converts texts and images into Braille."

He added, "We imported a printer in the past, but this one comes with new features; it works with a Brille Box V5 printer with high specifications and technologies, which prints 400 characters per second by converting texts and images into raised touchable dots (the Brille method)."

Al-Shammari explained, "The division will supply the public libraries in Karbala and Babylon with books printed in Braille because the libraries represent a remarkable importance in blind life; they need to find sources of knowledge that help them in cultural development and be aware of the latest developments, achievements, research, studies, etc."

He stated, "The goal of allocating a corner for the blind in public libraries is to identify the behaviour of the blind in searching for sources of knowledge, besides identifying the current situation of libraries designated to provide services to this category."
