University of Karbala hosts scientific conference on the role of religious authority and social peace
University of Karbala hosted the first edition of a specialized national scientific conference titled “Religious Authority and Social Peace,” organized by its College of Education for Humanities in collaboration with the Karbala Center for Studies and Research, an affiliate of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain. The conference drew broad participation from researchers representing universities across Iraq.
University President Sabah Wajid Ali emphasized that religious authority has historically played a vital role in maintaining social order, resolving conflicts, bridging differences, and safeguarding societal unity. He noted that today’s challenges call for renewed engagement with this legacy to strengthen social awareness and cohesion.
Meanwhile, Qasim Al-Yassari, Chairman of the Provincial Council, described the religious authority as a “safety valve” for preserving the social fabric and strengthening national unity. He added that public adherence to its guidance has contributed significantly to the successful implementation of key initiatives across various sectors.
Dean of the College, Hadi Al-Saidi, underscored that the historical role of religious authority remains a cornerstone for achieving security and peace, highlighting the broad acceptance of its positions both domestically and internationally.
For his part, Abdul Amir Al-Qurayshi, Director of the Karbala Center for Studies and Research, pointed to the authority’s pivotal role in issuing guidance, resolving crises through prudent leadership, and promoting coexistence among diverse segments of society.
