Lady Khadija Hospital for Women launches “Noor Al-Afiyah” medical initiative
Lady Khadija Hospital for Women has launched a subsidized medical initiative, “Noor Al-Afiyah” (Light of Wellness), aimed at treating eye diseases among women from low-income backgrounds.
Hospital Director Dr. Baidaa Ibrahim Al-Tamimi stated that the initiative was introduced under the direction of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain and officially began on April 4. She explained that it is part of a series of periodic fee-reduction programs designed to support underprivileged women and address their healthcare needs.
Al-Tamimi noted that the initiative will run for one month and focuses specifically on eye care. Patients eligible for examinations, diagnosis, and surgical procedures were identified through hospital surveys and statistical assessments targeting those most in need.
The initiative covers a range of procedures, including cataract removal with lens implantation, strabismus (squint) correction for one eye, eyelid tightening, foreign body removal, treatment of blocked tear ducts, and correction of ptosis (drooping eyelids).
She added that the cost of these procedures has been set at 300,000 Iraqi dinars—covering only operational expenses without profit—amounting to roughly 20 percent of the typical cost at comparable medical facilities.
According to Al-Tamimi, surgeries are performed by a team of three highly experienced female physicians, supported by medical and nursing staff working in shifts to maintain daily operating hours exceeding 13 hours.
She emphasized that the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain has equipped the hospital with advanced medical technologies for both outpatient diagnostics and surgical procedures, and remains committed to continuously upgrading its equipment.
Al-Tamimi also highlighted the strong public response to the initiative, noting that many patients have expressed appreciation for the affordable services, which have made essential eye surgeries accessible after previously being out of reach due to financial constraints.
