The Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain continues implementation of the “CyberKnife” project at the Warith International Foundation for Cancer Treatment, affiliated with the Shrine’s Health and Medical Education Authority. Project completion has surpassed 50% of the planned schedule following the completion of the concrete structural framework, the start of internal partitioning works, and preparations for installing specialized medical equipment.

The “CyberKnife” is an advanced robotic radiosurgery system used to treat cancerous and non-cancerous tumors with high precision, eliminating the need for traditional surgery. The project also includes dedicated “Tomotherapy” rooms, combining CT imaging technology with Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) in a single advanced treatment system.

Project Manager Engineer Zaid Kadhim Hassan stated that the project is being implemented under the direction of the Legal Custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain and supervised by the Strategic Projects Department as part of several medical initiatives affiliated with the Shrine.

He explained that the project is among the Shrine’s most significant healthcare initiatives, featuring advanced radiation-treatment technologies for cancer patients. He noted that the reinforced bunkers for the radiation equipment rooms have been completed in accordance with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) standards and Iraqi Radiation Protection Center requirements, with concrete walls and ceilings exceeding one meter in thickness.

Hassan added that the project has entered the finishing phase after completion of the structural framework, while work has also begun on the foundations for the radiation equipment and the installation of cooling and mechanical systems.

He confirmed that completion rates have exceeded 50%, noting that the next and most critical stage will involve installing the specialized radiation equipment, a process requiring extensive time and technical expertise.

According to Hassan, the project is expected to be completed and inaugurated before the end of the year. Once operational, it will become part of the Warith International Foundation for Cancer Treatment, providing advanced cancer treatment services to patients across Iraq.
