Interior minister orders maximum readiness along Iraqi–Syrian border
Abdul Amir Al-Shammari has directed all units deployed along the Iraqi–Syrian border to maintain maximum readiness.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, the directive came during a field visit by the minister to the city of Al-Qaim and nearby border areas, coinciding with the advent of Eid Al-Fitr. He was accompanied by a number of senior commanders and officers.
During the visit, Al-Shammari chaired a security meeting at the headquarters of the Border Forces Commandos Brigade, attended by the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Police Affairs, the Commander of Border Forces, sector commanders, brigade leaders, and the Police Chief of Anbar Governorate. He received a detailed briefing on operational duties and the deployment of forces across the Second and Sixth Sectors.
The minister stressed the importance of maintaining the highest levels of readiness across all units and communication systems, calling for the development of advanced operational plans that incorporate modern technology. He also directed brigade commanders to carry out continuous field inspections, ensure strict oversight of their sectors, and reinforce reserve forces.
Al-Shammari further emphasized the need to continue preemptive operations and intensify intelligence efforts, highlighting the importance of coordination with other security entities, including the Iraqi Ministry of Defense and the Popular Mobilization Forces.
The visit also included honoring several distinguished commanders and personnel from the Border Forces and Anbar Police Command, as well as extending Eid greetings. The minister reviewed the needs of security personnel and reaffirmed his full support for all units operating in this critical strategic sector.
