The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced that approximately 22% of children diagnosed with cancer in Iraq are receiving comprehensive, free treatment through the branches of the Warith International Foundation in 2026. The Authority also confirmed that expansion plans are underway to increase capacity and accommodate more patients.

Dr. Haider Hamza Al-Abidi, Head of the Authority, told the official website that, during 2026, the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, through the Warith International Foundation, has provided complete and free treatment to approximately 22% of children diagnosed with cancer across Iraq.

He said treatment is provided through the Foundation’s three branches: Warith Hospital, Al-Mujtaba Hospital, and Al-Thaqalayn Hospital. The Foundation, he added, is continuing its expansion plans to increase its capacity and serve a larger number of patients.

Al-Abidi further explained that the Foundation’s medical teams continue to support their colleagues at Ministry of Health oncology centers across Iraq’s governorates. This cooperation aims to strengthen coordination among healthcare institutions and improve the quality of care available to children with cancer.

He emphasized that the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine is continuing to expand treatment capacity, develop healthcare infrastructure, and adopt advanced medical technologies in line with international standards. These efforts are intended to reduce the burden on Iraqi families and ensure that children can access comprehensive cancer treatment within Iraq.
