The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced continued progress on its “Housing for the Poor” project in Karbala Governorate, one of its largest service initiatives aimed at supporting low-income families.

Engineer Mohammed Diaa Mohammed, head of the Strategic Projects Department, said that work is advancing steadily, with recent developments including the construction of the main perimeter wall and the start of a dual-purpose utility station.

He noted that finishing works on the residential units—both interior and exterior—have reached advanced stages, while infrastructure systems, including sewage, rainwater drainage, and potable water networks, are nearing completion.

The project spans 37.5 hectares, with 13.5 hectares allocated for construction, and includes 509 housing units. The homes are designed in two models—150 and 120 square meters—each featuring two bedrooms, a living room, a guest reception area, a kitchen, and bathroom facilities.

The complex also includes green spaces and essential community services such as four schools, a nursery, a kindergarten, a health center, sports facilities, recreational areas, and a mosque.

This project reflects the shrine’s ongoing humanitarian mission to support vulnerable groups by providing suitable housing, promoting social stability, and reinforcing the values of solidarity within the community.
