General Traffic Directorate announces trial operation of smart traffic light system in Baghdad
The General Traffic Directorate has announced that the smart traffic light system in Baghdad will begin operating on a trial basis starting this week, without recording any traffic violations during the testing period.
In a statement received by Karbala Now Agency, the Directorate said that the trial operation will start on Sunday, allowing authorities to evaluate the system’s performance before fully activating it.
According to the statement, the smart traffic lights will initially be tested at several key intersections across the capital, including Al-Ajras Intersection, Al-Bayda Intersection, Electricity Intersection (Al-Baladiyat), Al-Safara Intersection, Al-Mushtal Bridge Intersection (Al-Darwish), Al-Mushtal Bridge Intersection (Falafel Lebanon), Kasra wa Atash (Second) Intersection, Intersection 55, Al-Awrah Intersection, Al-Baladiyat Traffic Intersection, Central Markets Intersection (Al-Shaab), Company Intersection (Courthouse Intersection – Al-Rabeei Bridge Descent), Aden Intersection (Al-Shaab), Roundabout 83 Intersection, Al-Kayara Intersection (Umm Al-Kubra), Al-Wathiq Square, Al-Fallah Third Intersection, Al-Bunuk Intersection (Hayy Ur), Al-Shaab Overpass (First) Intersection (Al-Salikh), and Oil Intersection.
The Directorate explained that the trial phase aims to assess the efficiency of the smart system and ensure its readiness before the official implementation of traffic monitoring and violation recording across the selected intersections.
