Baghdad named 2025 capital of Arab tourism
The Arab Tourism Organization announced the selection of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, as the capital of Arab tourism for the year 2025, after passing the approved criteria of the organization, during the 27th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
The organization confirmed in its statement that the selection of Baghdad came based on criteria that included the management of the tourism sector, the development of infrastructure, and diverse tourism resources, in addition to the commitment to preserving the environment and responding to tourism developments, and achieving health safety, security and tourism stability.
The Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism welcomed the decision, while emphasizing the importance of highlighting the cultural and civilizational aspects of the city and its role in promoting inter-tourism between Arab countries, in addition to highlighting its value as a civilizational and historical center that reflects the Arab identity.
The President of the Arab Tourism Organization, Bandar bin Fahd Al-Fahid, congratulated the Iraqi government and the people of Iraq on this occasion.
He explained that the goal of choosing the capital of Arab tourism is to enhance cooperation between Arab countries in the field of tourism.
Al-Fahid pointed out that 2025 will witness many events and programs in Baghdad, organized in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, with the aim of developing regional and Arab tourism.
