Dagestan launches Muslim-friendly tourism route
The Republic of Dagestan, a mountainous region in Russia’s North Caucasus, has unveiled a new tourism initiative tailored specifically for Muslim travelers as it seeks to attract more visitors from Central Asia and the Middle East.
The new halal-friendly route, titled “Salam, Dagestan!”, was developed in accordance with Islamic tourism standards and is scheduled to officially launch in June. The inaugural tour will welcome 25 tour operators from countries across Central Asia and the Middle East for a week-long journey through Dagestan’s scenic landscapes along the Caspian Sea and its mountainous interior.
Participants will travel in premium minibuses and stay in high-quality accommodations designed to provide comfort and convenience throughout the trip.
The itinerary features visits to some of Dagestan’s best-known attractions, including the breathtaking Sulak Canyon, the Khunzakh Waterfalls, and the UNESCO-recognized historical sites of Derbent.
To accommodate Muslim visitors, the entire route has been adapted to halal tourism requirements, with all participating restaurants serving exclusively halal cuisine.
With nearly 95 percent of Dagestan’s population practicing Islam and more than 1,500 mosques across the republic, visitors will also find ample opportunities to observe daily prayers during their stay.
