Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi praised the agricultural projects of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine and pledged continued government support during the opening of the 17th Agricultural Week, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture.

During a visit to the Shrine’s pavilion, the Prime Minister was briefed on the Fadak Date Palm Farm, a major agricultural initiative spanning 200 hectares. The project has planted 40,000 date-palm offshoots, with 10,000 remaining. About 140–150 hectares are currently cultivated, with completion expected by June 2027.

Officials also asked the Prime Minister to help finalize an outstanding agricultural loan supporting the Fadak project. He responded positively and requested further coordination.

Al-Zaidi also reviewed the Shrine’s anti-desertification efforts, including the Northern Green Belt, which extends 20 kilometers and covers approximately 100 hectares, planted with date palms, olive trees and eucalyptus, alongside beekeeping activities.

The Shrine also cultivates approximately 600 hectares of wheat annually, supplying grain to the Ministry of Trade’s silos and supporting national food security.

The Prime Minister praised the Shrine’s agricultural and environmental initiatives and encouraged their continued development. The five-day exhibition also features date varieties, seedlings, cut flowers and trees produced by the Shrine’s agricultural departments.
