15 meters underground: Imam Hussain Holy Shrine completes major basement expansion project
The Expansion Projects Department at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the completion of the Imam Hussain Basement, located 15 meters beneath the Al-Aqeela Zainab Courtyard. The project forms part of the Shrine’s ongoing expansion initiatives aimed at improving services and facilities for pilgrims.
According to a statement published on the Shrine’s official website, the basement covers a total area of 5,340 square meters and was constructed as part of the Shrine’s broader efforts to expand its facilities and accommodate the growing needs of visitors.
The department explained that the project was completed in accordance with specialized technical and architectural standards, with the design carefully adapted to the character of the site and its location beneath the Al-Aqeela Zainab Courtyard.
The basement features floors and walls clad in high-quality marble, while its columns and ceilings are decorated with intricate mirror work, reflecting an architectural style befitting the sanctity and grandeur of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine.
The department noted that the project goes beyond construction alone, forming part of the Shrine’s broader efforts to provide pilgrims with suitable spaces for rest, services, and other essential facilities.
The completion of the Imam Hussain Basement represents another step in the Shrine’s ongoing infrastructure development and expansion plans, providing additional space and services while contributing to the continued improvement of facilities available to pilgrims.
