The city of Karbala is currently immersed in a profound spiritual atmosphere as the Arbaeen Pilgrimage unfolds. Streets and entrances are filled with mourning processions and service stations (mawkibs) from across the globe, creating a powerful humanitarian scene that reflects the unity of diverse peoples under the banner of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).

This year, mawkibs have arrived from countries including Iran, Pakistan, India, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, China, Germany, and Sweden, among others. These international groups are offering a range of services to pilgrims — from food, water, and medical aid to religious and cultural activities that showcase the unique heritage of each participating nation.

Along the main routes to Karbala, tents adorned with Hussaini banners line the roads. Chants and elegies resound in a symphony of languages: Persian, Urdu, English, German, Chinese, and more, creating a deeply moving, multilingual atmosphere of remembrance and unity.

Volunteers, many of whom have traveled great distances, work tirelessly around the clock. They provide meals, refreshments, rest areas, sleeping accommodations, and basic medical services to support the millions walking toward Karbala, some from hundreds of kilometers away.

Arbaeen marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) in the tragic Battle of Karbala in 61 AH. In recent decades, the pilgrimage has grown into a global event, drawing millions of participants each year. It is now recognized by international observers as the largest peaceful human gathering in the world, embodying the enduring legacy of Imam Hussain and his message of justice, dignity, and sacrifice.
