EU Ambassador to Iraq meets with Secretary General of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine
The Secretary General of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Al-Abayji, said that the Holy Shrine, as an institution, is a source of love, affection and harmony among the Iraqi people at the national level and with people of other faiths who believe in peace, progress, development, growth and respect for human rights. This came during his meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Seiler, and his accompanying delegation.
“The Holy Shrines seek to organize humanitarian activities related to human health and development. We have implemented a variety of industrial and agricultural projects, and the proceeds all go to serving humanity, pilgrims, underprivileged citizens, widows and orphans, as our message contains a humanitarian goal,” said Al-Abayji.
The European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Seiler, said, “I am Catholic, and I’ve had discussions with some friends in Rome about the fact that most people living in Europe do not have religious adherence as there is in your countries, and this is the truth.”
He added, “I appreciate what the Secretary General of Imam Hussain Holy Shrine said when he assured me that Iraq is my second country. I also appreciate what he touched on regarding religion and the knowledge that he possesses is something that I admire very much, because I do not find it in our countries. I’m the type of person who loves to delve deeply into religion and understand it in a society that is not my society.”
The European Union Ambassador to Iraq visited the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and toured the most prominent religious and historical landmarks.
The visit was coordinated by the Holy Shrine’s Public Relations Department.
