Construction has begun on the Sultan Mohamed bin Abdullah Grand Mosque and Islamic Civilization Center in Hulhumalé Phase 2, following a foundation-laying ceremony officiated by President Mohamed Muizzu.

The project, being developed with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Rajhi Company, will become the Maldives’ largest multi-facility mosque. Its main prayer hall will accommodate 10,000 worshippers.

The complex will also include an Islamic library, cultural center, Quran museum, exhibition hall, multipurpose community hall, visitor facilities, bookstore, and gift shop.

The project coincides with the 900th anniversary of the Maldives’ conversion to Islam and is intended to promote Islamic education, culture, and heritage among residents and visitors.

An agreement has been signed with Al-Rajhi Company to finance the project.
