A collection of rare Islamic artefacts has opened to the public at the North Lincolnshire Museum, giving visitors the opportunity to see items that were once accessible only to pilgrims travelling to Mecca.

As reported by the BBC, standout pieces include a key to the resting place of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family) and a rare section of the Kiswa—the ornate cloth that traditionally covers the Kaaba at the heart of the Great Mosque in Mecca. Many of the artefacts date back several centuries and showcase remarkable craftsmanship, featuring details such as embroidery woven with 22-carat gold thread.

Abid Khan of the North Lincolnshire Multi-Faith Partnership noted that the exhibition not only highlights the artistic heritage of these works but also offers a meaningful connection to the pilgrimage experience for those who have journeyed to Mecca.

The exhibition is presented by the Kiswa Arts and Culture Gallery in partnership with the Multi-Faith Partnership, and is supported by North Lincolnshire Council and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
