Encyclopedia Documenting Al-Qaeda and ISIS Terrorism in Iraq Launched
As part of the activities of the Sufficient Defense Fatwa Festival, the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) hosted the unveiling of the Encyclopedia Documenting Al-Qaeda and ISIS Terrorism in Iraq. The launch ceremony was attended by Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey. This encyclopedia is regarded as one of the most extensive national documentation efforts undertaken in the post-victory era.
In a special statement to the Karbala Now Agency, Sheikh Ali Al-Qarawi revealed that the encyclopedia was the result of five years of dedicated work by specialized committees and professional teams. It consists of 50 volumes, organized into five key thematic sections.
The first section, Media, focuses on analyzing ISIS's propaganda techniques and recruitment strategies, and includes an archive of media content—both visual and written.
The second section, the Documentation, is based on nearly 1,000 field interviews with eyewitnesses and survivors. Of these, 871 verified testimonies were included in the encyclopedia, after being cross-referenced with official documents.
The third section, the Archaeological Axis, records the destruction of 948 archaeological sites at the hands of terrorist groups. Major areas covered include Mosul, Kirkuk, Anbar, Baghdad, and Babylon, with documentation spanning religious and historical landmarks from diverse cultural and faith backgrounds.
Sheikh Al-Qarawi emphasized that this encyclopedia aims to preserve Iraq’s national memory by providing reliable documentation for use in legal, academic, and societal contexts. He added that the project plays a vital role in exposing terrorist crimes and ensuring that the truth endures for future generations.
