UK-based Muslim charity organization sends aid and food packs to families affected by severe flooding in the Philippines
More than 844,000 people have been affected by severe flooding in the Philippines, mainly in Mindanao and Luzon, since July 7.
The heavy rainfall has caused flash floods and landslides in low-lying villages in the provinces of Maguindanao del Sur and Lanao del Sur. Local authorities have confirmed that 8 people have died, 21 are injured and 2 individuals are missing, so far. Farmlands and vital infrastructure have suffered heavy damage, and more than 300 houses have been destroyed.
Over four thousand families have been displaced and are scattered across 31 different evacuation centers, with limited access to clean water, food and other necessities.
In response, the UK-based Islamic Relief has provided food packs to over 3,500 families and established communal kitchens in evacuation camps. As further rain is anticipated, the charity organization plans to distribute hygiene kits to an additional 2,400 displaced families, continuing its vital support for affected communities.
