WHO: Thousands of cholera cases around the world

The World Health Organisation announced the discovery of thousands of cholera cases, and over 160 people have died during the past month.


According to the organisation’s statement, "18 countries are affected so far, less than 14% compared to May. We recorded 32K new cases in the Eastern Mediterranean region, about 18.7k infections in Afghanistan, 6.6k in Yemen, and 5.2 thousand in Pakistan."


In January 2023, WHO considered cholera's epidemic spread to be a "level 3 emergency" which is dangerous, noting that the infection records reached over a quarter of a million cases in the period January 1 to June 30, spread in 25 countries.
