The Met Museum website publishes an art painting about the Battle of Karbala
The famous American "Metropolitan Museum of Art" published an art painting from the Ottoman era on its official website, what it described as the first historical stages leading to the outbreak of the Battle of Karbala.
The website said, in the context of its description of the painting titled "Prophet Muhammad Preaching", Folio from a Maqtal-i Al-i Rasul of Lami'i Chelebi, that it "shows the Prophet of Islam Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) preaching seated on a pulpit, with Ali and his sons Hassan and Hussain on his left side, in the presence of a gathering of people in Medina.”
Chelebi noted that “The holy characters are identified by their flaming haloes and are surrounded by an attentive audience.”
The museum, which is based in the US state of New York, added that "this scene, drawn in the late sixteenth century in Iraq or Turkey, tells the introduction to the story of the martyrdom of the grandson of the Noble Prophet, Imam Hussain bin Ali (peace be upon him) in the battle of Karbala, which later became a turning point for the Muslim community."
The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City, colloquially "the Met", is the largest art museum in the Americas. Its permanent collection contains over two million works, divided among 17 curatorial departments.
