One of the historic treasures on display at a new exhibition at the Louvre Museum in Paris is pages from one of the earliest Holy Qurans that still exist.
The exhibition titled ‘The Splendors of Uzbekistan’s Oases’ includes over 170 works from the country’s history including two pages from Kattalangar Holy Quran – one of the world’s earliest surviving Quran manuscripts dating back to the early days of Islam.
For centuries, the manuscript was kept safe in a chamber in a small village situated on a mountain.
The manuscript has been written on parchment in one of the oldest forms of Arabic script-Kufi and Hijazi.
The exhibits will be on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris until 6 March 2023.
