The Health and Medical Education Authority at the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine has announced the adoption of DoseRT, an advanced radiotherapy technology, making it the first institution in Iraq to implement the system. The technology is being introduced at the Warith International Cancer Institute in Karbala and the Al-Thaqalayn Foundation in Basra.

Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, Head of the Authority, told the Shrine’s official website that the adoption of DoseRT represents a significant step forward in advancing cancer treatment and improving radiation dose monitoring during radiotherapy.

He explained that radiation doses were traditionally calculated using computer systems before and during treatment. With DoseRT, however, radiation dose information can now be visualized through a dedicated technical interface, allowing medical teams to monitor doses in real time as treatment is delivered.

Dr. Al-Abadi added that the technology is now being used in clinical practice by specialized teams at a limited number of radiotherapy centers worldwide, including the Warith International Cancer Institute’s facilities in Karbala and Basra.

The adoption of DoseRT reflects the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s continued commitment to keeping pace with scientific and technological advancements in oncology, strengthening radiotherapy capabilities, and enhancing the monitoring of radiation doses to support the delivery of cancer care.
