The Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain continues work on the Babylon Autism Center, a comprehensive, multi-service facility in the Al-Karama neighborhood. The project is part of the shrine’s broader medical and humanitarian initiatives in the province. Construction is now more than 75% complete, with the center expected to open next year.

Engineer Zaid Azzam, head of the Engineering and Technical Projects Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, described the facility as a pioneering medical project and the first of its kind in Babylon province. The center will provide specialized services for individuals with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and neuromuscular disorders.

Azzam explained that the project occupies a 3,000-square-meter plot, with a total built-up area of approximately 12,000 square meters. The six-story facility includes five modern elevators, three staircases, gardens, fountains, and other amenities.

He noted that construction has surpassed 75% completion and is progressing steadily despite financial challenges, in accordance with the project's established schedule and technical specifications.

The center’s designs were developed in coordination with Al-Sibtayn Academy for Autism Treatment and follow internationally recognized standards for specialized care facilities. These standards informed decisions regarding spatial planning, colors, lighting, treatment halls, and relaxation areas. The building is also being equipped with modern systems and materials imported specifically for the project.

Azzam emphasized that the center’s significance lies in bringing multiple therapeutic and rehabilitation specialties together under one roof. This integrated approach is intended to provide comprehensive services for individuals with disabilities and their families while reducing the need to seek treatment at multiple facilities.

The center is expected to open next year, subject to financial, engineering, and technical conditions.
