Imam Hussain Holy Shrine announces Iraq’s first robotic surgery at Warith International Cancer Treatment Center
In a landmark medical achievement, the Warith International Cancer Treatment Center, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, has announced the successful performance of the first robotic surgery in Iraq.
Dr. Rabie Hanna, a specialist in robotic surgery, stated in remarks to the Shrine’s official website that the center successfully carried out a robotic procedure for endometrial cancer, which included the removal of lymph nodes in the pelvic and abdominal regions.
He explained that the operation followed the recent introduction of Iraq’s first specialized robotic surgical system at the center. The system operates within an internationally accredited framework, ensuring the delivery of high-quality medical services in line with global standards.
Dr. Hanna described the procedure as a qualitative leap in cancer treatment within Iraq, noting that this is the first time such advanced robotic technology has been utilized in the country. He added that the Warith Foundation aims to expand the use of this technology and provide specialized training programs for Iraqi surgeons in robotic surgery, with the goal of elevating healthcare standards nationwide.
This milestone forms part of the broader mission of the Warith International Foundation for Cancer Treatment to localize advanced medical care within Iraq, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for specialized surgical procedures and strengthening the country’s healthcare capabilities.
