Ministry of Culture announces plans to attract foreign tourism
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities announced on Tuesday its plans to revitalize tourism across the governorates, emphasizing that it has introduced significant incentives aimed at attracting both local and foreign tourism companies.
Undersecretary Fadhil Al-Badrani stated, “One of the Ministry’s key responsibilities is to promote heritage tourism in Baghdad and the governorates. Baghdad—named the Arab Tourism Capital—has hosted numerous cultural festivals, while other governorates have seen a notable rise in tourist numbers due to their archaeological sites, heritage landmarks, and tourism services.” He affirmed that the Ministry is working to “reach the highest possible level” in developing the sector.
Al-Badrani added that the Ministry has provided several incentives to encourage investment, including tax exemptions throughout 2025 and simplified entry procedures for tourism companies. These steps aim to enhance investment opportunities for foreign companies and strengthen cultural ties, which he said will positively impact tourism in Baghdad and the governorates.
Addressing the decline in water levels in the marshes, Al-Badrani acknowledged that the issue poses a major challenge and has adversely affected the tourism sector—particularly marsh tourism.
