Cybersecurity center predicts 190% rise in cyberattacks in coming phase
The Iraqi National Cybersecurity Center has announced its full readiness to confront potential cyberattacks targeting the country’s digital infrastructure, warning that the frequency of such attacks could rise by 190 percent in the coming period.
Ali Hussein Hamdallah, Director of the National Cybersecurity Center, stated that cyber threats are a global phenomenon, noting that attacks worldwide increased by 128 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.
“With the expansion of electronic services provided by the government, the likelihood of cyberattacks is expected to grow,” Hamdallah explained. “According to our data, the projected increase could reach 190 percent in the next phase.”
He affirmed that the center is fully prepared to counter these threats through a range of preventive and protective measures, including the safeguarding of both digital and physical assets identified as potential targets.
Hamdallah added that the establishment of the National Cybersecurity Center represents a major step forward in strengthening the protection of Iraq’s government systems and ensuring the security and continuity of electronic services.
