The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine marked the beginning of the sacred month of Muharram with a central mourning gathering in Erbil, attended by its representative in the Kurdistan Region, Sheikh Ali Al-Qarawi, along with a large number of mourners, religious and social figures, and local dignitaries.

Speaking to Karbala Now, Sheikh Al-Qarawi said the gathering was held under the directives of Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey, as part of a comprehensive plan to organize Muharram commemorations across the Kurdistan Region.

“The large turnout reflects the deep connection of believers to Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and the enduring values of his blessed uprising,” Al-Qarawi said. He also expressed appreciation to the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs for its cooperation in facilitating the ceremonies and Hussaini rituals.

Al-Qarawi noted that the Shrine has mobilized its resources to provide a range of services for mourners, including meals, in keeping with the spirit of service and solidarity that characterizes the Ashura commemorations.

The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine’s mourning gatherings in Erbil will continue for ten consecutive days as part of a broader program aimed at commemorating Muharram and reinforcing the principles and legacy of the Hussaini revolution.
