Anti-Muslim hate at record levels in UK, report finds
Anti-Muslim hate in the UK reached record levels last year, according to the Islamophobia monitoring group Tell Mama. The organization confirmed nearly 6,000 anti-Muslim incidents in 2024, more than double the number from two years ago. For the first time, more men than women were targeted.
Tell Mama recorded a 43% rise in anti-Muslim incidents, including a 72% increase in offline cases, which mostly involved abusive behavior, physical assault, and vandalism in public spaces.
The group urged coordinated government action, with director Iman Atta emphasizing the need for support for victims and unity against hatred. A government spokesperson condemned anti-Muslim attacks, stressing a commitment to tackling hate and bridging community divisions.
