Stylus Hall at the University of Southern California recently hosted a remarkable event to unveil a new artwork by the internationally acclaimed Muslim artist Aadil Abedi. The piece will be featured in the newly renovated student mosque and Islamic Center, which is part of the University’s Interfaith Center. The unveiling ceremony, organized by the Muslim Students Association, included inspiring speeches from both the artist Abedi and Varun Soni, the Dean of the College of Religious Life. The event also featured the recitation of an Islamic supplication, creating an atmosphere of peace and reflection.

The President of the Muslim Students Association highlighted that the renovation of the space signifies the university's growing interest in Islamic culture. He noted that the prayer area had expanded from one room to two, a reflection of the increase in the association’s membership, which has grown from 30 to over 250 members.

Varun Soni emphasized the power of art in fostering understanding between different religions and cultures. He pointed out that both art and religion serve to express humanity's highest ideals.

Known for his abstract Arabic calligraphy with a modern twist, Abedi explained that his artwork aims to capture the spiritual and cultural beauty of Islam in a way that blends tradition with contemporary creativity.

Based in London, Abedi has collaborated with major global companies such as Disney, Meta, and Apple, infusing Islamic calligraphy with modern design elements in his latest piece.

A statement from the university noted that the new Islamic Center would be a welcoming space for all students, regardless of their religious or cultural backgrounds. It will serve as a platform for cultural and artistic dialogue, reflecting the values of diversity and tolerance on campus.
