UN: Grand Ayatollah Sistani’s religious authority is global, not just for Iraq
The United Nations Special Representative in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassani, affirmed from Basra that Grand Ayatollah Sistani's religious authority extends beyond Iraq, holding global significance.
In a press conference in Basra, Al-Hassani stated, “I visited the Supreme Religious Authority, who is not only a religious leader for Iraq but a global authority. I did not hear anything that diminishes Iraq's status or its rightful place within the international community.”
He added, “During my meeting with the Supreme Religious Authority, I found him deeply concerned about the country and the region as a whole.”
Al-Hassani emphasized that Iraq, as a founding member of the United Nations, is a vital partner that must not be overlooked. He expressed hope that the Iraqi government will successfully restore the country’s standing in the international community and the region.
