Over 100k unproven archaeological sites in Iraq
Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities, announced that Iraq has over 15,000 proven archaeological sites, while the unproven ones exceed 100,000.
He stated, "There is currently competition with some Arab cities, and work is underway to let one of the Iraqi cities win the title of Arab Tourism Capital for 2025."
He explained, "There is a plan to transfer the old Ministry of Defence building into a museum for the Iraqi army."
Al-Badrani added, "The ministry held cultural weeks in France and Tunisia and had cultural participations in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and there are upcoming participations in Bahrain and UAE, also holding a cultural week in London."
He added, "Iraq participated with UNESCO in the intangible cultural heritage that includes Iraqi foods, heritage industries, and others, noting that the festivals that the ministry held and supported during the past two years exceeded 80 festivals in 11 international festivals with a clear Iraqi imprint."
It is stated that the House of Cultural Affairs printed 11 books by 11 great Iraqi poets, including Ahmed Safi Al-Najafi, Nazik Al-Malaika, Yassin Taha Al-Hafedh, Hashim Shafiq, Abdul Samad Ibn Babak, Ajwad Mujbil, and Abdul Wahhab Al-Bayati, in addition to a large number of short stories that were also printed."
