Imam Hussain Cultural Center in Islamabad hosts delegation of religious leaders
The Imam Hussain Cultural Center in Islamabad, affiliated with the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain in Karbala, welcomed a distinguished delegation of prominent religious leaders representing diverse faiths and sects. The delegation included representatives from Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, the Baha'i Faith, and Islam. The visit aimed to promote dialogue, deepen mutual understanding, and strengthen the bonds of peace and coexistence among various segments of society.
The guests were warmly received by the Center’s Director, Dr. Muhammad Askari, who introduced them to the timeless humanitarian message of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him). He emphasized the values embodied in Imam Hussain’s legacy—justice, the preservation of human dignity, tolerance, and steadfast resistance against oppression.
An extensive introductory session followed, during which participants were presented with a comprehensive overview of the Center’s programs and initiatives, including:
· Interfaith and inter-sectarian dialogue conferences and seminars
· Collaborative programs with religious leaders to promote a culture of social harmony
· Youth training workshops focused on values, ethics, and social responsibility
· Intellectual forums designed to foster mutual respect and peaceful coexistence
· Awareness campaigns during religious occasions highlighting universal human values and peace
The delegation was also briefed on the international scientific and cultural projects undertaken by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine in Karbala, which aim to advance a culture of service to humanity and reinforce shared ethical principles.
Participants praised the Center’s civilizational and humanitarian role in bridging perspectives among followers of different religions. They emphasized the importance of continuing such initiatives to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen community cooperation.
At the conclusion of the visit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to sustained communication and joint efforts to promote tolerance, harmony, and peaceful coexistence.
Nasser, representing the Christian community, underscored the importance of interreligious rapprochement and peaceful coexistence, noting that the uprising of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) stands as a powerful example of these values.
Pandit Rakesh Chand, representing the Sikh community, stated that the humanitarian initiatives undertaken by the religious institution, embodied by the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, reflect the true message of divine compassion and service.
The delegation also included Professor Mehrdad (Baha'i), Mr. Munawwar (Christian), Mr. Sardar Ranjit Singh (Sikh), Ms. Soraya Asghar (Reverend), Nasser Khan (Reverend) Ashfaq Bhatti, Sheikh Pir Azmat Shah, Ms. Asia Nasser, Engineer Rush Allah, and Dr. Mir Alam.
