Ashura Day: Over 800 journalists and 600 media outlets cover ceremonies in Karbala
Hussein Al-Shammari, head of the Karbala branch of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, announced on Sunday that more than 600 media outlets participated in covering the Muharram ceremonies in Karbala, from the replacement of Imam Hussain’s banner to the tenth day of Ashura. The turnout marks one of the most extensive media coverages the holy city has ever witnessed.
Speaking to Karbala Now News Agency, Al-Shammari said the participating media included news agencies, newspapers, satellite channels, content creators, and professional photographers from across the globe.
He noted that over 30 fixed and mobile satellite broadcasting units (SNG) were deployed to transmit live coverage of the events to audiences in Iraq and abroad.
“The number of journalists exceeded 800, representing local, Arab, and international media organizations,” he stated, highlighting the profound religious and media importance of the occasion.
Al-Shammari also praised the cooperation of the two holy shrines, which provided extensive support for media professionals. Services included high-speed internet, meals, dedicated press platforms, and the issuance of official badges to ease journalist access throughout the Old City.
In conclusion, he commended the efforts of security forces for ensuring a safe and efficient working environment for all journalists and media personnel covering the Ashura ceremonies in Karbala.
