Iraqi Health Minister: Strengthening health and media cooperation between the two brotherly nations, Iraq and Lebanon
Health Minister Abdul-Hussein Al-Mousawi said on Tuesday that cooperation between Iraq and Lebanon, particularly between their respective ministries of health, is built on shared experience and proven expertise in crisis management, including Iraq's mass gathering seasons as well as emergency and disaster response.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart, Rakan Nasser Al-Din, Al-Mousawi said the two sides held extensive discussions that are expected to produce tangible outcomes through the work of joint committees. He added that these efforts would further strengthen health and media cooperation between the two brotherly nations while laying the foundation for implementing the agreed initiatives.
Al-Mousawi also announced that a follow-up visit to Beirut is planned in the coming period to finalize the agreements and deepen coordination and integration between the health institutions of both countries. He stressed that bilateral cooperation remains ongoing, adding that Iraq welcomes Lebanon as "its first home," reflecting the close ties between the two nations.
For his part, Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nasser Al-Din expressed appreciation for the warm reception in Iraq, describing it as Lebanon's "second home." He thanked the Iraqi government for its continued support of Lebanon's Ministry of Health, particularly during the recent war following the Israeli aggression.
Nasser Al-Din said the Lebanese delegation briefed Iraqi officials on the scale of the damage and the current state of the country's healthcare system. Despite the significant challenges, he noted, hospitals and healthcare facilities across Lebanon continued to provide essential medical services throughout the crisis.
He praised Iraq's sustained support during times of war and emergency, emphasizing that it had benefited both Lebanon's health sector and other vital institutions. He also reaffirmed Lebanon's readiness to share its expertise with Iraq, particularly in crisis, disaster, and emergency management, and revealed that an official invitation had been extended to Minister Al-Mousawi to visit Lebanon in the near future.
