Messages of hope in treatment corridors: How Wadaq turned her sarcoma journey into an inspiring art exhibition

Hospital corridors can often evoke fear and anxiety in children, but 11-year-old Wadaq found a way to transform that experience. After being diagnosed with a rare and complex sarcoma in her knee, she turned the challenges of her treatment journey into a powerful expression of strength, creativity and resilience.

From Fear to Passion

Wadaq’s journey began with emotions familiar to many children facing medical treatment: fear of hospital visits, anxiety about treatment sessions and a strong reluctance to enter the hospital.

A turning point came through the support of the psychological care team, who noticed Wadaq’s natural tendency to draw as a way of coping with stress. Recognizing the therapeutic potential of her creativity, they encouraged her to explore her interest in art.

The team gave her a complete art set, transforming drawing from a simple distraction into a meaningful form of self-expression. Before long, Wadaq had developed a genuine passion for art and something positive to look forward to during each hospital visit.

Transforming the Treatment Environment

The psychological support program was designed to improve Wadaq’s experience throughout her treatment, and the impact was significant. What was once a source of fear gradually became a place where she could meet friends, practice her favorite hobby and express herself creatively.

With every treatment visit, Wadaq made a point of leaving a new painting in the psychological support room. Over time, her artwork became a permanent part of the space, bringing color and warmth to an environment once associated with anxiety.

As her fear subsided, Wadaq also became more positive and engaged, strengthening her ability to cope with the emotional and physical challenges of her treatment.

Paintings That Tell a Story of Courage

Today, the psychological support room has become a colorful “mural of hope,” showcasing Wadaq’s growing collection of artwork.

Her paintings are more than images on paper. They represent courage, resilience and the power of creativity to help children navigate difficult experiences. Each piece carries a quiet message to other young patients facing similar challenges: even during the hardest moments, hope can find a way to grow.

Through her art, Wadaq has transformed the corridors of treatment from places associated with fear into spaces filled with color, creativity and hope.
