Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain holds mourning gatherings across Nigeria to commemorate Ashura
As part of its outreach efforts during the month of Muharram, the African Activities Division of the Religious Affairs Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain organized a series of mourning gatherings across Nigeria to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him), attracting widespread participation from mourners.
Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar Al-Maliki, head of the African Activities Division, told the shrine's official website that the division organized the gatherings in various regions of Nigeria as part of its mission to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and promote the enduring message of the Hussaini movement.
He explained that the gatherings focused on highlighting the noble objectives, values, and principles for which Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) rose and sacrificed his life. The programs emphasized preserving and instilling these ideals while presenting the Imam as a timeless model of sacrifice, devotion, and steadfastness in defending truth and justice throughout Islamic history.
Al-Maliki added that the events witnessed significant attendance and engagement from local communities. Participants were introduced to the historical significance and intellectual legacy of the blessed Husseini revolution, with discussions centered on drawing practical lessons from its principles and applying them to contemporary challenges.
Through its African Activities Division, the Religious Affairs Department at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain continues to organize educational, religious, and cultural programs across the African continent to strengthen religious awareness and promote the humanitarian values and teachings of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them).
