Al-Kawthar University in Islamabad is holding its annual Ashura commemorations during the first ten days of the holy month of Muharram, drawing thousands of participants to mourning gatherings dedicated to the memory of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).

As part of its longstanding tradition, the university is hosting a series of Hussaini lectures delivered by Sheikh Anwar Ali Al-Najafi, attracting large audiences from various segments of society.

The gatherings focus on the enduring lessons and values of Imam Hussain’s uprising, highlighting the intellectual, spiritual, and humanitarian dimensions of the tragedy of Karbala. Speakers emphasize the role of the Husseini movement in promoting reform within the Muslim community and reinforcing the principles of justice, dignity, and Islamic unity.

The Ashura lectures also address a range of doctrinal, ethical, and educational issues relevant to contemporary challenges, underscoring the importance of following the example of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) in building both individuals and society.

The program has witnessed broad participation from residents of Islamabad and neighboring regions, with thousands of men and women attending, including religious scholars, academics, university students, seminary students, and members of the wider community. The gatherings feature traditional mourning rituals, elegy recitations, and commemorations of the sacrifices made by Imam Hussain, his family, and his loyal companions.

To ensure the success of the events, Al-Kawthar University has implemented a comprehensive organizational plan that includes logistical, security, and medical services. The arrangements also provide seating areas, vehicle parking, hospitality services, and the distribution of votive food offerings to participants.

These commemorations are among the most prominent religious and cultural events held in Pakistan’s capital during Muharram. Beyond preserving the rituals of Ashura, they contribute to strengthening religious awareness, promoting the ethical and humanitarian values of the Ahlulbayt, and fostering social cohesion and unity within the community.
