Pakistan conference calls for Islamic unity ahead of Muharram
Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology has held its annual National Conference on Islamic Unity and Inter-Sectarian Harmony in Islamabad, bringing together senior scholars and representatives of various Islamic schools of thought ahead of the holy month of Muharram.
Participants highlighted the spiritual and historical significance of Muharram, emphasizing the enduring lessons of the Karbala tragedy, including patience, sacrifice, justice, and steadfastness in upholding Islamic values.
The scholars stressed the importance of promoting unity, dialogue, and mutual respect among different sects, particularly in light of current national and international challenges. They also reaffirmed the importance of the national code of conduct developed in cooperation with religious scholars and state institutions to preserve social harmony and stability.
The conference called for joint educational and awareness programs in mosques, seminaries, and Islamic institutions to strengthen brotherhood and cooperation among Muslims. Participants also encouraged greater efforts to highlight the teachings and legacy of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them) as a means of fostering tolerance, respect, and social cohesion.
At the conclusion of the event, attendees emphasized that promoting moderation, national unity, and peaceful coexistence is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation among scholars, educators, media organizations, and public institutions.
