Holy Shrine of Imam Ali opens exhibition of rare treasures and manuscripts
The Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) has inaugurated an exhibition of treasures and manuscripts from its library as part of the activities marking the 15th annual Week of Ghadir. Held in the Lady Amina (peace be upon her) Hall within the Courtyard of Lady Fatima (peace be upon her), the exhibition features a distinguished collection of rare manuscripts, historic documents, handwritten copies of the Holy Quran, and other valuable heritage artifacts.
Ammar Mashallah, Deputy Head of the Department, stated that the exhibition showcases a selection of rare Quranic manuscripts and historical documents that represent an important intellectual, cultural, and scientific legacy. He noted that the Holy Shrine Library is among the oldest and most prominent libraries in Iraq and the Islamic world.
Mashallah explained that this year's exhibition adopts a new display approach that differs from previous editions. Among its highlights are several "Millennial Qurans"—manuscripts copied more than one thousand years ago—some of which are being displayed to the public for the first time.
He added that the exhibition also highlights the library's ongoing efforts in the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of these invaluable manuscripts, while providing visitors with an opportunity to view selected Quranic manuscripts and rare historical works housed in the library's collections.
According to Mashallah, the exhibition is organized by the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs and runs from the 16th to the 21st of Dhu Al-Hijjah. It aims to deepen public engagement with the occasion of Eid Al-Ghadir and to reinforce the values of allegiance and devotion to the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him). The event also seeks to preserve the memory and message of Ghadir as a lasting source of guidance and inspiration.
He concluded by emphasizing that the Exhibition of Treasures and Manuscripts offers a unique opportunity for researchers, heritage enthusiasts, and visitors to explore rare intellectual and historical treasures within a celebratory atmosphere that reflects the significance and spiritual grandeur of Eid Al-Ghadir.
