Brazilian footballer performs Umrah after embracing Islam
Brazilian footballer Kathleen Souza performed the Umrah pilgrimage after announcing her conversion to Islam.
Souza, who plays for Al-Nassr Women, recently shared news of her embrace of Islam. The club posted a video on its official X platform marking what it described as a special moment in her life, expressing prayers for her steadfastness and inner peace.
In the video, the international midfielder appeared visibly emotional, saying, “I was just trying to find the right path and become the best version of myself—that’s all.”
She later shared photos on her personal Instagram account from Mecca while performing Umrah, writing: “Small steps, finding the right path, looking for change, grateful for the gift of life.”
Souza is currently enjoying strong form with Al-Nassr Women and was recently named Player of the Month.
The 29-year-old was born in São Vicente, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, and has represented the Brazil women’s national football team. Earlier in her career, she played as a central defender for Internacional before joining Al-Nassr Women in August 2024.
She began playing football at a young age in Brazil, briefly featuring for Santos FC’s youth team, before moving to the United States, where she continued her development while studying at the University of Louisville and the University of Central Florida.
