Warith International Foundation publishes scientific paper in prestigious global journal on lung cancer in Iraq
The Warith International Foundation for Cancer Treatment, affiliated with the Health and Medical Education Authority of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain, has announced the publication of a scientific paper titled “Lung Cancer in Iraq” in the international Journal of Thoracic Oncology, a leading journal specializing in lung diseases and tumors.
In a press statement, the Authority noted that this achievement represents a major medical milestone, as the Journal of Thoracic Oncology is regarded as one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the field, with an impact factor exceeding 20.
The statement explained that the research constitutes a significant national scientific accomplishment, documenting for the first time in Iraq the pioneering role of the Warith International Foundation in establishing the scientific and practical foundations for a comprehensive, free national lung cancer screening program. The program targets high-risk groups and forms part of the “One Million Free Early Screening Tests” campaign under the Iraq Healthy Lung Project, utilizing low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) technology.
It added that this publication goes beyond academic recognition, marking a strategic shift in lung cancer prevention and early detection efforts in Iraq, and reinforcing the adoption of evidence-based health policies aimed at safeguarding public health.
The Authority emphasized that scientific research is a cornerstone of its healthcare vision, stressing the importance of translating global medical knowledge into accurate, safe, and free services for Iraqi citizens, in line with its humanitarian mission to preserve human life and advance the national healthcare system.
This scientific achievement comes as part of the ongoing efforts of the Health and Medical Education Authority at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain to promote medical research and support high-quality studies with global impact, particularly in oncology and preventive healthcare.
