Oman’s Dhofar Governorate has announced plans to construct the country’s first mosque using 3D printing technology, as part of the Dahariz Waterfront Development Project in Salalah. The initiative aims to integrate modern urban planning with sustainable and culturally inspired design.

Innotech Oman, a local pioneer in 3D printing for construction, will lead the project in partnership with Oday Architecture. The mosque’s design features a spiral ribbon structure that creates shaded walkways and terraced green spaces around the main prayer hall.

Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Head of Dhofar Municipality, stated that the project reflects the governorate’s vision for innovative urban spaces that express Islamic identity while embracing sustainability. He noted that the mosque will serve as a spiritual, architectural, and cultural landmark along Dahariz Beach.

The use of 3D printing is expected to reduce material waste, speed up construction, and support the integration of natural light and renewable energy systems.

The oval-shaped prayer hall will feature a central oculus that filters sunlight, symbolizing divine guidance. The minaret, inspired by the shape of an Omani sail and a traditional incense burner, will be crowned with a crescent, reflecting a fusion of modern engineering and cultural heritage.
