The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey, has opened Al-Thaqalayn Hospital for the treatment of cancerous tumors in Basra Province.

The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of the Secretary-General of the Holy Shrine, Mr. Hassan Rashid Al-Abayji, and a number of prominent religious, political and media officials.

Sheikh Al-Karbalaey said in his speech at the opening ceremony that "the Supreme Religious Authority has made serving people in various areas of their life a priority and a humanitarian concern, therefore, we must reflect this in reality. The goal of establishing such projects in the health, educational, and cultural fields is to support and work with state institutions to better serve citizens."

The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority indicated that treatment of all types of tumors will be provided at Al-Thaqalayn Hospital free of charge for one year and for all ages.

"We do not want to be a profit-making institution. We want to be an institution that serves all Iraqi people regardless of their religious denomination, tribe or nationality."

Al-Karbalaey added, "Basra is the city of giving and it is the province that gave the most wounded and martyrs to protect Iraq. Therefore, it has a status of regard and appreciation, and we must admire it."
