Chinese Ambassador to Iraq Cui Wei said Wednesday that trade between Iraq and China exceeded $51 billion last year, highlighting the continued development of bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.

Cui said Sino-Iraqi relations are undergoing “profound and continuous development,” resulting in practical cooperation between the two countries. He described Iraq as a key partner for China in the Belt and Road Initiative, which he said has produced “fruitful results.”

He noted that major Chinese companies are involved in the development of several sectors in Iraq, including oil, electricity, and infrastructure. Bilateral trade, he added, surpassed $51 billion last year.

Cui said cooperation between the two countries is based on mutual interests and continues to expand. He expressed hope that bilateral ties would broaden into additional areas, contributing to the development of a comprehensive partnership.

The ambassador also emphasized the potential for further cooperation, citing the strong economic complementarity between Iraq and China. He said this complementarity provides a promising foundation for expanding economic ties and creating new opportunities for cooperation in the future.
