Christoph Prommersberger, the Dutch Chargé d’Affaires to Iraq, visited Karbala and the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) in a visit focused on the city’s religious and cultural significance.

During the visit, Prommersberger met with Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi Al-Karbalaey, representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, in the prayer area of the holy courtyard, where he meets citizens and pilgrims following congregational prayers.

Prommersberger also toured several landmarks within the Imam Hussain Shrine complex, learning about Karbala’s religious and historical heritage and the facilities and services provided to pilgrims.

The Dutch diplomat expressed interest in strengthening communication and cooperation between Iraq and the Netherlands, including through the exchange of expertise across various sectors.

The visit provided an opportunity to learn more about Karbala’s religious and cultural significance and to observe the services provided to the large numbers of pilgrims arriving from across Iraq and abroad.
