The Ministry of Interior said Monday that genuine security success is measured by the ability to prevent crimes before they occur and swiftly detect and address them when they do, noting that Iraq’s crime rate has fallen to its lowest level since 2003.

Major General Miqdad Miri, Head of the Ministry’s Relations and Media Department, said the Ministry’s primary responsibility is to implement preventive and precautionary measures aimed at stopping crimes before they occur. He explained that the Ministry seeks to reduce crime to normal levels that do not cause public concern or disrupt daily life.

Miri attributed the decline to the Ministry’s ongoing security and preventive efforts, stating that Iraq’s crime rate has now reached its lowest level since 2003.

He further said that Iraq, including the capital Baghdad, is experiencing a high degree of security and stability, allowing citizens to travel safely and freely across the country, from Al-Faw and Basra in the south to Zakho in the north.

Miri emphasized that the Ministry’s core mission is to protect the lives and property of citizens throughout Iraq, with its responsibilities extending from the country’s borders to police stations and security facilities in cities across the nation.
