The Louvre Museum in Paris has opened a temporary exhibition highlighting selected works from its Islamic art collection while the museum's Islamic Art Department undergoes renovation.

Titled “Affinités: The Wonders of Islamic Art Through Decorative Arts,” the exhibition features around 50 works and runs through December 31. It offers visitors a chance to explore some of the collection's notable pieces during the department's temporary closure.

Curated by Philippe Malgouyres and Annabelle Collin, the exhibition examines the historical, technical and artistic connections between the Louvre's Islamic Art and Decorative Arts collections.

The works, dating from the ninth to the 17th centuries, illustrate centuries of cultural and artistic exchange between the Islamic world and Europe. The exhibition is organized around three themes—light, color and sculpture—highlighting innovations developed in the Islamic world and their influence on European art and collecting.

The title “Affinités,” meaning “connections” or “affinities,” reflects the longstanding geographic, cultural and artistic ties between the Islamic world and Europe.
