A new report by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) says incidents targeting mosques and other Islamic places of worship in the United States have risen sharply, with 17 cases recorded between May and July—a 183% increase compared with the same period last year.

According to CAIR, the incidents included an attack on a mosque, threats of violence, arson, intimidation, and opposition to Islamic places of worship based on religion. The organization said the three-month total represents more than half of all mosque-related incidents it documented during the previous year.

"Islamophobia remains an acceptable form of hate in the US," said Corey Saylor, CAIR's Research and Advocacy Director, who called on community leaders to strengthen security measures to ensure mosques remain safe places for worship and community gatherings.

CAIR highlighted the May attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego as a key incident during the reporting period and also noted reports of coordinated harassment targeting multiple mosques in New Jersey, including threatening phone calls, hate mail, and intimidation.

The organization is urging mosque leaders to adopt updated security practices and plans to release a revised Best Practices for Mosque and Community Safety Guide later this month.
