Iraq's Ministry of Health announced that it provided 131,699 medical and therapeutic services to pilgrims and mourners during the Ashura commemorations on the 10th of Muharram.
Ministry spokesperson Saif Al-Badr said the services included emergency treatment, first aid, and care for various medical conditions and injuries through medical detachments and field hospitals deployed along pilgrimage routes.
Al-Badr added that Health Minister Abdul-Hussein Al-Musawi visited the holy city of Karbala to oversee the implementation of the ministry's health plan and monitor the delivery of medical and ambulance services to pilgrims.
According to the ministry, the largest number of cases was recorded in Karbala (30,275), followed by Najaf (29,141), Maysan (19,385), Al-Diwaniyah (12,253), and Babylon (10,406). Additional cases were treated in Wasit, Dhi Qar, Baghdad's Al-Rusafa and Al-Karkh districts, Kirkuk, Nineveh, and by the Operations Directorate.
The ministry also reported that 9,268 patients were transported by ambulance, while 2,100 cases were transferred from medical detachments to hospitals. To support the pilgrimage, health authorities deployed 7 mobile hospitals and field clinics, 774 ambulances, 18 medical centers for mass gatherings, and 211 medical detachments.
In addition, medical teams treated 112,623 general medical cases and 9,662 hemorrhage-related cases during the Ashura observances.
Al-Badr said the figures reflect the implementation of the Ministry of Health's comprehensive emergency plan, carried out in coordination with supporting health departments and relevant agencies to ensure continuous medical and ambulance services throughout the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (peace be upon him).
