The Al-Abbas Holy Shrine has inaugurated the Al-Noor Solar Panel Factory in Karbala, marking a significant step toward advancing renewable energy and strengthening Iraq’s domestic industrial capabilities.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, Sayed Mustafa Murtada Al-Diaa Al-Din; the Secretary-General of the Imam Hussain Holy Shrine, Hassan Rashid Al-Abayechi; the Governor of Karbala, Nussayif Jassim Al-Khattabi; along with officials, staff members and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, Engineer Diaa Majeed Al-Saegh, Head of the Projects Department at the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine, said the factory reflects a strategic commitment to alternative energy solutions and long-term sustainability.

“Today’s inauguration represents more than the launch of a new production facility,” he said. “It is a practical step toward achieving greater self-sufficiency in renewable energy and contributing to the development of a sustainable national economy. The project aims to provide high-quality energy solutions that can power homes and industries efficiently, affordably and with minimal environmental impact.”

Factory Manager Engineer Ali Noor Razzaq described the facility as the first of its kind in Iraq, noting that it has been equipped with advanced machinery sourced from leading international manufacturers.

“The factory employs modern technologies, including industrial automation and robotics, to ensure the highest standards of quality,” he said. “Solar panels undergo multiple stages of testing and inspection throughout the production process to guarantee performance and reliability.”

Razzaq added that the factory’s initial annual production capacity is expected to reach 100 megawatts, with future expansion plans aimed at increasing output to meet growing demand for renewable energy solutions.

The project forms part of broader efforts to promote clean energy, reduce reliance on conventional power sources and localize advanced manufacturing industries within Iraq.
